When Fred Williams was a teenager; he was given an old guitar by his mother. Early on, his experimentation with the instrument frustrated the whole house as he tried to learn how to play. After a phone conversation between his mother and father, his father bought him a new electric guitar and amplifier, and a neighborhood musician gave him a couple of lessons to help develop his gift. By his junior year in high school, Fred was playing for church and growing stronger in his relationship with God even though he had not given his life over to Him yet.
After graduating from High school, Frederick joined the United States Navy and his first duty station was in Yokosuka, Japan aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Midway (CV-41). On his 19th birthday he stepped foot on the biggest ship he had ever seen, which was the biggest birthday present ever. While walking in town one night, God and he had a conversation and on October 20, 1986, being only 20 years old, Frederick gave his life to Jesus. God began a new work in his life and Fred’s life was headed in a new direction. While traveling across the world, God would use him to sing and play piano in religious services on the ship as well as in ports such as Hong Kong, The Philippines, Singapore and Korea.
Favor has been a key factor in Fred Williams’ life. As a member of the Voices of Praise Choir at the Naval Base Chapel, God would open up doors for him to sing in Japanese prisons, and churches in Tokyo and other towns. God then gave Frederick orders to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii where he served on a Frigate called the USS Ouellette (FF-1077). God led him searching for a home church and he eventually found and joined The International City of Refuge Christian Church Ministries. He immediately joined the music ministry and God began to use him to lead the worship service and teach the choir original songs of praise he had been inspired by the Holy Spirit to write. They developed a street ministry where he and a host of other laborers would take his portable keyboard down town Waikiki and minister in song and in the word of God to many people and many souls would come to know Jesus as their personal Savior.
In recent years, Fred has been stretching his wings as a songwriter and recording artist, having produced singles such as On This Journey and A Holy Life. On September 10, 2001, after 14 years in Hawaii, Frederick and his family relocated back to South Carolina, by God’s leading, to his 1st full time ministry position in Shinnston, West Virginia as the Minister of Music of Jewel City Church. Since that time God has taken him to an entirely new level in ministry by bringing him to a place where he solely depends on God for everything in life, He is excited to share his music and his life story in concerts at churches and military establishments, including West Point Military Academy.
